We all have a good idea of what make for attractive lips, and they rely on fullness, softness and smoothness. Researchers have determined that there’s a scientific precedent for this, a 2006 issue of Dermatologic Therapy writing that one of the characteristics of a young, beautiful face is centred on a “soft, full appearance”. Unfortunately, age takes away from the face’s natural beauty, robbing the lips of their youthful vitality and leaving them thinner and wrinkled. Edelstein Cosmetic can help you improve the appearance of your lips by providing you with a full range of highly effective lip enhancement treatments. As the study mentioned above goes on to say, since “the lip [is] the focal center of the lower face, subtle lip enhancement is here to stay, and is in fact, the number one indication for injectable fillers.”

How to make your lips smoother, more defined and fuller
- Lip enhancement with dermal fillers or autologous fat transfer can smooth wrinkles, add volume and redefine your lip contour.
See these improvements
- Lips that have better definition.
- A more prominent upper lip shape (“cupid’s bow”).
- Better balance between the lower and upper lip
- Better symmetry between the left side of your lips and the right.
- An enhanced vermillion border (the outline of your lips).
- A lack of vertical wrinkles so your lipstick won’t bleed.
- No more downturned mouth corners: a 2006 Dermatologic Surgery study found that a sample group of 15 middle-aged women suffering from “mouth frown” saw lip injection therapy providing “effective, safe and well tolerated” results.
I didn't like what I saw in the mirror and wanted that image to match who I was during the day.
Revitalizing your lips can be simple and relatively fast with lip plumping injections. You have the choice of dermal fillers or fat transfer.
Temporary hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers provide you with the results you need without any of the discomfort and recovery times that come with older, invasive surgical techniques. They’re the most popular choice in lip enhancement, offering you natural-looking, rejuvenating effects that drastically improve your appearance. A 2007 Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery article, Injectable Soft-Tissue Augmentation: The Present and the Future, determined that these dermal fillers delivered with lip injections are able to give you the kind of results you need, providing “safe, effective, and long-lasting” benefits. There are several types of dermal fillers available, but we have found that Juvéderm® Ultra, Ultra Plus and Volbella consistently achieve beautiful, natural-looking results.
Volbella® is the new gold standard for non-surgical lip augmentation. Volbella® is an injectable filler based on hyaluronic acid (HA) that provides a desirable improvement in the lip contour, boosting volume, smoothing vertical creases (smoker’s lines), and achieving symmetry–all in a single treatment session that usually lasts 20 minutes or less. Plus, it has lidocaine (anaesthetic) in it for a more comfortable treatment.
Volbella® is preferred to Juvéderm® Ultra because it has a smoother, softer consistency that mimics the natural feel of your lips better. Studies have found that results last longer, too.
A European study involved the treatment of 60 subjects with Volbella® for their lips and mouth area. The subjects were assessed at 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 months after their treatment. Almost 100% of the subjects reported that treatment achieved their desired goals of lip fullness, and not one subject experienced a severe adverse event. Desirable, lasting results were also achieved with less product when compared to the amounts injected in Restylane or Juvéderm® Ultra studies.
Because transplanted fat closely resembles your natural lip tissue and requires no prior compatibility test, fat transplantation has become one of the most common forms of permanent lip enhancement. It involves grafting fat, harvested from one part of the body, to be reinjected into your lips utilizing precise techniques that have been designed to minimize your recovery period. Achieving highly satisfying results, lip injections with your own fat is an option for patients who prefer a longer lasting transformation of their lip contour. You’ll also get a somewhat leaner contour in the area from which the fat is taken!
If you’re unsure of which form of lip enhancement is right for your needs, we are ready to help you by providing a thorough consultation process that ensures you get the proper treatment—and high satisfaction with your results.

Are you a candidate?
Lip enhancement is for healthy patients who dislike the appearance of their lip contour.
The most common side effects experienced by patients include swelling and bruising. These are temporary and will go away within a few days. You may also feel some discomfort.
Rare risks of treatment include infection, sores, inflammation and blood vessel rupture. Raised bumps and lumps may also occur and are usually attributed to excess product. These complications can be resolved with medical treatment.
Once your medical history and concerns have been reviewed to determine that lip enhancement is right for you, your injector will let you know whether dermal fillers or fat transplantation is more suitable.
Your dermal filler treatment
Topical anesthetic may be applied, if necessary. This is in the form of a numbing cream.
Targeted areas are marked and then the injection is performed by one of our talented medical injectors. Once the product has been injected, light massage may be performed to adequately disperse the product.
Your fat transfer treatment
The first part of your treatment is to harvest fat from an area that has an abundance of it. This tends to be the mid-section or thighs. The fat is purified, then injected into the your lips.
Following your treatment
The healing time varies depending on the type of lip enhancement method you’ve received. Fat transfer usually involves a longer recovery period. You’ll receive instructions on how to properly care for the treated areas.
You’ll see an immediate improvement of your lip contour. However, swelling and bruising will hide your results. In about a week or two, you should be able to see the optimal results of your treatment.
The results of your Juvéderm® Ultra or Ultra Plus treatment can last for up to six or nine months, while Volbella® lasts up to a year.
Fat transfer can last for much longer than a year. In fact, with touch-ups your results may be permanent.
